After graduating from dental school in 1998, Dr. Barakat completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency (AEGD) at Louisiana State University. From there, he completed an additional two-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Barakat is a proud Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology, which requires the completion of a rigorous exam to prove the doctor’s exceptionally high level of clinical knowledge and proficiency in implantology. He is just one of 445 dentists in the United States and one of 10 dentists in Virginia to have achieved this advanced certification. Additionally, he holds Mastership status with the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires the completion of over 1,100 hours of continuing education covering all phases of dentistry; at least 400 of these hours must involve case presentations and courses involving direct participation.
Dr. Barakat is a credentialed member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and has achieved Fellowship status. To receive this honor, a dentist must be certified by their peers and meet the national standards of education and practice regarding oral implantology. He is also a Diplomate of the International Congress of Implantology, which the highest honor offered by this internationally recognized organization.
Dr. Barakat has completed countless advanced courses, including the Medical College of Georgia’s AAID MAXI-COURSE in implant dentistry. This course is among the most comprehensive and respected implant training programs in the country. He currently serves as a part-time faculty member at the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry and as the Continuing Education Chair for the Academy of General Dentistry’s Virginia Chapter.
